Ultimate U word!
I was browsing through a list of good 'U' words for today's post this morning, for inspiration. I'd already given an 'update' on all the things I have going on here, and how I'm 'under pressure' to meet a deadline and how it's going to be 'under the wire' but I'm 'undaunted' and 'undeterred' and some other 'U' words about it. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Plus, a ton of A-Z challengers have already posted on 'Unique', 'Unedited', 'Undefined', and 'Understanding'. Not to complain, but I hate to post a title that more than 3 or 4 other people have used as theirs.
Then this caught my eye:
Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty.
What an utterly and unbelievably long 'U' word! My spell check is going crazy, but it's a real word!
An uvulopalatopharyngoplasty is a medical procedure. It is the surgical resection of unnecessary palatal and oropharyngeal tissue to open the airway. Basically, it's a reconstructive surgery to cure extreme cases of snoring, either with or without sleep apnea.
My husband has mild sleep apnea, and he snores pretty bad some nights. If I don't go to sleep around the same time he does, it takes me FOREVER to block out the snoring. (A pillow usually helps, sometimes- I either whack him with it to wake him up and make him stop snoring, or I lay it over his head to muffle the sound. ;D )
So not only have I found the Ultimate U word for today's challenge post, but if he keeps up the snoring I can tell him, "Go have an ulvulopalatopharyngoplasty, so I can get some sleep!"

LOL- Sharlene, 'ungulate' is pretty impressive. I'll admit that I didn't know what that was, initially!
ReplyDeleteTara, I wish I knew how to pronounce it!!! Lol! I say your Tag post and I would love to play but am already having trouble having time to keep up with the blogs I'm reading. I hope you do it again later, though, and then I will join in! :)
What a fabulous word! My husband just had surgery on his nose so he'd be able to breathe better. I wonder if it would fall under this category.
ReplyDelete...I'd give you a round of applause just for being able to type it! :-o
